Should I Give The Insurance Company a Statement?

Most often insurance companies will have their adjusters attempt to get oral or written statements from victims of accidents immediately after the collision.

Prior to consenting to giving a statement you should have legal representation. Aside from the potential danger that you may improperly describe the collision in terms that can hamper your claim later, most adjusters will attempt to get you to minimize the description of your injuries and agree with them that "you should be fine," or "you're a little shaky, but you'll be okay." Those sorts of statements can derail any chance that you may later have at reaching a fair settlement or conclusion of your claim. Your attorney will likely allow you to give a statement to an insurer later, and only after you have been properly prepared.
